Myanmar earthquake: the urgent need for support
On March 28, 2025, a devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar. Homes have been reduced to rubble, essential infrastructure has collapsed, and entire communities are struggling to access clean water, food, and medical care.

Despite making up half the world’s population, women and girls face higher rates of marginalisation, loss of dignity and inequality in countless areas. They face higher poverty rates, lower education levels, lower access to health, lower employment opportunities, lower pay, poorer working conditions, high rates of gender-based violence, and a higher burden of family and care responsibilities.

To commemorate National Sorry Day 2023, Caritas Australia and our partner Kinchela Boys Home Aboriginal Corporation (KBHAC) invited all Australians to participate in a webinar to reflect on Australia's true history and commit to truth-telling about Stolen Generations survivors and their descendants.

Caritas Australia CEO Kirsty Robertson has been elected as the new Vice President of Caritas Internationalis.

Conflict has broken out in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan, and thousands of civilians have been caught up in the violence. Families are running out of food, water and medicine as the conflict continues, and many have risked fleeing their homes and becoming refugees to escape the fighting.

Clean water is a basic human need. Without access to it there is little hope for communities to recover from the devastating cycle of poverty. In the Solomon Islands, 33% of the population does not have access to healthy or safe drinking water. To mitigate this issue, as part of the 3H program, Caritas Australia Solomon Islands (CASI) was able to successfully deliver three handpumps in Surabuta.Â

In March, The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) delivered its Sixth Assessment Report where leading scientists have issued an ‘urgent warning’ on the climate crisis. Thanks to the generosity of supporters like you, Caritas Australia is taking action against climate change by implementing new programs across the Pacific region and Africa to further support communities at risk.Â

Project Compassion launched on Shrove Tuesday, marking the beginning of the season of kindness and compassion towards communities who need it most. Many parishes and schools across the country hosted a Project Compassion launch, where they heard from representatives from Caritas Australia about this year’s stories, as well as the difference they are making in the lives of those who need it most.
