Up to 161 million more people are facing hunger this past year.
47 million women are expected to be pushed further into poverty because of COVID-19.
Many communities are facing the COVID-19 crisis, which is compounding the challenges faced by those living in poverty.
COVID-19 has impacted some of the world's most marginalised communities – including our neighbours in Papua New Guinea, India, Indonesia and Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh. Many of these communities already face the daily challenges of forced displacement, extreme poverty and inadequate health care.
We work in partnership with local organisations and Church networks to supply urgent hygiene kits, Personal Protective Equipment, sanitation, prevention education and cash assistance to communities in need. Using our local networks, we are able to reach as many people as possible, including those living in the most remote and marginalised communities.

The funds raised through this appeal will be used to provide immediate and longer-term humanitarian assistance to communities affected by COVID-19 and other crises.
Where this is not possible, the funds will be used to provide immediate and longer-term development and humanitarian assistance to communities affected by crises. If any excess funds remain after a crisis, or if there are changes in circumstances beyond our control that limit our ability to use the funds, they are kept in the Emergency Response Appeal so that we can respond to ongoing development needs and future crises across all our regions.
