Programs Snapshot: First Australians

Christine Rhazi, our First Australians Associate Director, introduces you to the work of our First Australian partners, and how your support you can help keep indigenous culture strong for generations to come.

First Australians have the solutions. All of our programs are led and designed by First Australians. As one of the oldest living cultures in the world, it is essential that we build on the strengths and knowledge of First Australians in all our programs.

Our work with First Australian communities helps strengthen cultural identity and spirituality, promote intergenerational healing and provide livelihood opportunities.

One of our partners is Djilpin Arts, in the Northern Territory. They operate a centre for traditional and contemporary Aboriginal arts and culture, providing employment for local communities. Elders run workshops and share their knowledge with the younger generation and local guides run bush cultural tours for visitors.

One of the Elders working at Djlpin Arts is Janice. Janice is a traditional dancer who tells stories through movements handed down over generations. Through Djilpin Arts, Janice can help keep her culture alive through dance as well as pass on her knowledge to future generations.

Thank you for supporting Caritas Australia and for walking alongside our First Australians partners on this journey of reconciliation.
